Yarn Braids

Well - I feel very accomplished! My friend Lisa and I went up to a blogging/adopting friends' house last week to learn how to put yarn extensions into our girls' hair. We are hoping to be pros at hair styling by the time the girls arrive (again, if you don't know, Lisa is adopting Naomi's best friend, Monica, who is 5 years old). We spent the day learning and then at the end of last week, we spent two days braiding our other friend, Monica's daughter Lydia's hair. What you do is buy regular yarn that you would use for knitting and you weave it into the hair. I can't believe how natural it looks and it's supposed to be easier on the hair, too. It's lighter than artificial hair and it doesn't break off the hair like the artificial hair does. And the best part - you can leave it in for 10 to 12 weeks! Worth the over 16 hours it took to put it in. I have to admit that Lisa did most of the work the first day and then we worked together for another entire day. As you can see, we were pretty proud of ourselves when we were finished. We ended up with 141 braids! Lydia added beads later, which looks really cute!
Lydia was at Beacon House (where our kiddos are) too, and she knows Annamarie. She came home to her family last March and she is SO excited for Annamarie to get here. She asks me constantly when our kids are going to get here. It is just amazing to me that God has not only provided these children with forever families but that He is providing them with friends with their same background and heritage!
Still waiting...and waiting...and waiting! Maybe this week...I hope! Please pray!
